Experience the many faces of Alaska in this 12-day self-drive adventure. Start the fun in Anchorage, an unforgettable paradise famous for glaciers, mountain vistas, wildlife, and modern luxuries. Drive the scenic Glenn Highway towards Palmer then head east, soaking in the sight of fjords and inlets on your way to Copper River area - a mystical place resting peacefully at an Orca Inlet. Continue towards the tiny town of Chitina for your scenic flight above mountains, glaciers and wilderness before arriving in the magical place of McCarthy-Kennicott. Enjoy a half-day Root Glacier hike exploring other-worldly formations unlike anything else you have ever seen: blue pools, waterfalls, canyons, crevasses and moulins. Fly back to Chitina then head over to Valdez for your Columbia Glacier Cruise exploring the best of Prince William Sound. Drive back north towards the Sheep Mountain Lodge along Glenn Highway before transferring to Anchorage. From Lake Hood, take a scenic flight towards Redoubt Bay Lodge to join a guided wildlife tour, bear viewing, kayaking and fishing. Spend time enjoying wildlife and the rustic setting of the lodge before your tour ends.

Upon arrival in Anchorage, pick up your rental vehicle and drive to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure to enjoy the sights.
Depart Anchorage and drive the Glenn Highway north towards Palmer then travel east above the fjords and inlets to Copper Center. Overnight in the Copper River area.
Continue south along the Richardson Highway towards the tiny town of Chitina - the gateway into Wrangell/St. Elias National Park and McCarthy-Kennicott. Your flight from Chitina to McCarthy-Kennicott gives you some of the most spectacular aerial views of the national park as you fly alongside the flanks of Mt. Blackburn, over the Kennicott and Root Glaciers, past the Erie Mine and view of the awe-inspiring Stairway Icefall.
This magical location is the furthest road extension in the massive Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Today, you'll enjoy a half-day Root Glacier hike which is most likely the best day hiking trip in Alaska, and almost certainly the best glacier hiking in Alaska! After meeting your guide, you’ll start out on the hike to the “white ice” of the Root. Along the way, your guide will share interesting details on the local natural and human history. Once on the ice ,you will explore other-worldly formations unlike anything else you have ever seen: blue pools, waterfalls, canyons, crevasses and moulins - holes drilled hundreds of feet deep into the ice by the flowing meltwater.
Today, fly back to Chitina by bush plane. From Chitina, continue south to Thompson Pass where you may wish to stop at one of the pullouts for views of Worthington Glacier before you begin the decent to Valdez.
Today, you have an opportunity to discover all of what majestic Prince William Sound has to offer. Your cruise through Prince William Sound will feature a visit to the Columbia Glacier area and see wildlife along the way.
Today, you will drive back north on the Richardson Highway to Glennallen then onto Sheep Mountain Lodge. The rest of the day is at leisure for you to enjoy the sights.
Drive the Glenn Highway south to Anchorage. Overnight in Anchorage.
Transfer from your Anchorage hotel to Lake Hood and depart Lake Hood on a scenic 50-minute float plane flight to Redoubt Bay Lodge. Upon arrival, settle in and join a guided wildlife tour in search of the bears and other wildlife that frequent the area. Guests explore the area by boat or skiff primarily. Kayaks are available for you to use. All activities are guided.
Today, you are welcome to choose your guided wildlife viewing activity by boat, skiff or kayak as this tailor made program is designed to suit your interests. Bear viewing, especially in July, is the main activity for guests. Other wildlife can be spotted in the area such as different birds, bald eagles and harbour seals.
Continue to enjoy wildlife viewing until your scheduled departure to Anchorage Lake Hood. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel.
Upon check out of your hotel, your tour ends.
