Experience the awe-inspiring scenery and fascinating wildlife of the Canadian Rockies during this thrilling, 10-day rail adventure. Begin your discovery in Vancouver as you board the renowned Rocky Mountaineer. Travel through the Sea to Sky Corridor until you reach the town of Quesnel. From Quesnel, re-board the train and continue to Jasper, the commercial centre of Jasper National Park, the largest of the Canadian Rockies national parks. Discover the stunning Maligne Lake, famous for its azure waters. Whilst in Jasper, enjoy a cruise to Spirit Island, ride the Ice Explorer and walk along the famous Glacier Skywalk. Continue to travel along the Icefields Parkway with stops at Bow and Peyto Lakes, the Crowfoot Glacier and the Athabasca Falls, until you reach the iconic Lake Louise, famed for its emerald green water and glistening glaciers. Then, enjoy excursions to Banff and Yoho National Parks including Moraine Lake, Spiral Tunnels and Valley of the Ten Peaks. In Banff, explore the town’s highlights including Bow Valley, Bow Falls, Lake Minnewanka, the Hoodoos and the Banff Gondola. From Banff, board Rocky Mountaineer once more, travelling to Kamloops, BC before returning to Vancouver by luxury rail.

Day 1
Vancouver – Whistler (Rocky Mountaineer)
Today, Rocky Mountaineer takes you on a breathtaking rail journey through the stunning scenery of the Sea to Sky Corridor. Highlights of the trip include spectacular views of Howe Sound and the Coast Mountains, Brandywine Falls, Mount Garibaldi and the impressive Cheakamus Canyon. The remainder of the day is at your leisure.

Whistler – Quesnel
Travel onboard the Rocky Mountaineer to the charming rural town of Quesnel, gateway to the North Cariboo. Enjoy breathtaking and varied scenery, from the river canyons and lush farmland of the Pemberton Valley, through the desert like conditions of the Fraser Canyon, to rolling hills and vast ranch lands of the Cariboo Plateau.

Day 3
Quesnel – Jasper

This morning, re-board the Rocky Mountaineer train for your continuing journey to Jasper. Your route today follows the famous Fraser River. Enjoy breakfast and lunch onboard. Keep your eyes open for grizzly, moose, beaver and osprey! You will pass the historic settlements of McBride and Tête Jaune Cache on your way to the Yellowhead Pass, then pass Mount Robson, (3,954 metres), the Rockies’ highest peak. Crossing into the province of Alberta, you will arrive by late afternoon in the peaceful alpine town of Jasper.

Day 4
Jasper – Maligne Valley

This introduction to Jasper begins with a short tour of the town before heading across the Athabasca River to Maligne Lake. A stop at Maligne Canyon offers staggering views of the river thundering through a series of magnificent waterfalls in a gorge 10,000 years in the making. Once at Maligne Lake, you can enjoy an interpretative boat cruise bound for Spirit Island, truly another of Canada’s iconic images.

Note: Maligne Lake Cruise operates daily from early June to early October. On non-operating dates the tour will be replaced by Maligne Valley and Guided Walk or Discover Jasper and its Wildlife.

Day 5
Jasper – Lake Louise

Travel by coach today via one of the most scenic highways in North America - the Icefields Parkway. Visit the Columbia Icefield that covers an area of nearly 125 sq mi (325 sq km) and reaches a depth of 1050 ft (320 m). Time allows for an Ice Explorer ride (included) on the Athabasca Glacier, then a stop at the award-winning Glacier Skywalk (included) to experience a glass-floored observation platform 918 ft (280 m) over spectacular glacier-formed valleys and rushing waterfalls. After, continue along the Icefield Parkway where stops will be made at Bow & Peyto Lakes, the Crowfoot Glacier and the Athabasca Falls. This highway is renowned for sightings of bears, elk, moose & mountain sheep, so keep your camera handy.

End your day in Lake Louise, one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. You will marvel at the magnificent shoreline with dense forest and glacial peaks rising abruptly from the water’s edge. (picnic lunch included today)

Note: Mountain lakes in this region will be frozen through to mid-June.

Mountain Lakes and Waterfalls Full Day Tour

Visit the most treasured spots in the Canadian Rockies on this remarkable excursion through Banff and Yoho National Parks. Highlights include Moraine Lake, Valley of the Ten Peaks, Spiral Tunnels, Takakkaw Falls, and a hot lunch at Emerald Lake Lodge.

Note: Moraine Lake does not open until mid-May, and Takakkaw Falls does not open until mid-June. Alternate stops will be organized during that time.

Lake Louise – Banff

Depart Lake Louise mid-morning for a short drive via the scenic Bow Valley to Banff, arriving mid-day.

Day 8
Banff

This morning, tour the town of Banff and its environs. Among the highlights are visits to the Hoodoos (shaped by centuries of wind) & Bow Valley Viewpoint, Surprise Corner, Bow Falls, Lake Minnewanka and Bankhead, an abandoned mining town and the relic of Banff’s industrial past. At the end of the tour, you will be taken to the Banff Gondola for a breathtaking ascent to the pinnacle of Sulphur Mountain for an awe-inspiring 360-degree panorama of sheer mountain majesty. Return to downtown Banff at your leisure (transfer not included).

Day 9
Banff – Kamloops (Rocky Mountaineer)

All aboard Rocky Mountaineer for the scenic rail journey to Kamloops in the interior of British Columbia. As the train crosses over the continental divide, you pass through the spiral tunnels in Yoho National Park, a remarkable engineering achievement. Continue hrough the Rogers Pass in Glacier National Park with endless views of snow-capped mountains and stunning glaciers. Pass by Craigellachie, where the last spike was driven completing the Canadian Pacific Railway Trans Canada link in 1885.

Day 10
Kamloops - Vancouver (Rocky Mountaineer)

Re-board the Rocky Mountaineer train and follow the Thompson River through Ashcroft - one of Canada’s driest towns (with an average rainfall of just 18 centimetres). Pass through Rainbow Canyon with its cliffs striped with pinks, greens and greys creating a stunning effect. Continue to the Fraser Canyon where at Hell’s Gate you will observe a water torrent past the canyon walls at its narrowest point. The last leg of the journey takes you through the lush farming region of the Fraser Valley to arrive in the Pacific port of Vancouver late afternoon.
