  • Whale Watching cruise:

An exciting up-close encounter with the worlds largest toothed predator the Giant Sperm Whale in their natural environment at all times of the year, our 95% success rate. The main focus of your tour is to locate and view the Giant Sperm whale. We average between 1 to 2 whale sightings per tour due to the length of time the whales can stay submerged. The whales form loose pods, keeping several miles between each other, so viewing any more than 1 to 2 whales per trip is a real bonus. Throughout your tour, there is an onboard visual presentation, “World of the Whales” – an experience that takes passengers “virtually” to the bottom of the Kaikōura undersea canyon. The presentation also provides information for a variety of marine life found in Kaikōura waters.

OR

  • Albatross Cruise:

Kaikoura is renowned worldwide as a birding hotspot; within just a small area, you'll meet one of the greatest varieties of seabirds and pelagic birdlife you'll find anywhere! Our tours are by boat, on a vessel designed for purpose. We only take up to 12 people on each tour, so that you can get the best possible chance to see birds up close. It's typically just a 15-20 minute ride out to encounter the birdlife, during which you'll be treated to spectacular views of the stunning Kaikoura Coast. The whole tour is about 2.5 hours long, giving you plenty of opportunities view and observe the majestic albatross and other species. We carry frozen 'chum' (fishy bits) on the boat, sourced naturally from local commercial fishers, that helps to bring the birds in close allowing very close viewing and photography opportunities. The discarded offal from the local fishing fleet helps provides a significant portion of the seabirds diet here in Kaikoura. On-board identification guides, knowledgeable staff and a full species list and souvenir information pack will help you identify and learn more about the birds you see on your trip.

OR

  • Swim with the dolphin experience:

Kaikoura is one of the best places in the world to encounter dolphins in their natural environment! Dusky Dolphins are known to be one of the most interactive and acrobatic species of dolphin. Thrilling to watch, magical to interact with and here it's all on the dolphins’ terms. Cruise the stunning Kaikoura coastline, enjoy incredible photographic opportunities, and observe one of the world’s most acrobatic species of dolphin! The purpose-built vessels allow ample space to take in the spectacle. It is not unusual to see large numbers of dolphins; and their antics both above the water and in it with the swimmers create one of the best wildlife shows you can see anywhere.

Swimming with dolphins is a unique and sought-after activity often being described as a life-changing experience, creating the most special and heart-warming memories of any activity. There is a limit of just 16 swimmers on each vessel with plenty of additional space for watching. Both swimmers and watchers travel on the same boat. The Dolphin Encounter tour is focused on respecting the dolphins in their natural environment. While the dolphins will come very close to you we don’t recommend that you try and touch them but rather, the best idea is to swim with your arms at your side. If you reach out to touch them this will usually cause the dolphins to move away. The dolphins are curious and we encourage swimmers in the water to make some noises, for example, singing a favourite song or making a dolphin like noise through your snorkel can attract the dolphins close to you.

The Freedom of Choice options are included in the package price, and the price remains the same regardless of the choice you make on each day.

Why do some packages not offer the ability to Book Now on the website?

If a package on our website does not include our Peace of Mind Booking Plan, it will not be available to Book Now.

Due to the boutique nature and limited capacity of some travel experiences offered, they have strict payment and cancellation policies. (e.g., a remote bear lodge in Canada with only a few cabins).

Although technically possible, we have decided that it is impractical for us to try and sell these type of travel services on-line. We believe it is important that such product is discussed, so that we can ensure these strict payment and cancellation policies are understood before we proceed with a booking.

For such product we may act as an agent only for the principal suppliers. Where we act as agent, your contract for the delivery of travel arrangements will be with the principal supplier and will be subject to their Booking Conditions.

We will advise you prior to confirming your booking if we are acting as agent and we will confirm the details of the principal supplier. Our responsibility to you where we sell travel arrangements as agent for the supplier is specified in the ‘Responsibility’ section of our Booking Conditions.

Can you book my international airfares?

Following customer feedback, we do not include international flights in our holiday packages.

We found that many customers may prefer:

  • To travel on specific airlines
  • Have the flexibility to book flights with Frequent Flyer points
  • Select flight dates that may be different to the package start/end dates
  • Use their travel agent for this service

However, we are able to assist, so please just notify us during the Book Now process or contact our team.

Should I take travel insurance?

Travel insurance is strongly recommended. During the Book Now process please confirm you require assistance, and our team will be in contact with you.

What should I do before travelling?

Before you travel it is your responsibility to ensure you have the appropriate documentation including visas. If you are travelling on a passport other than Australian or New Zealand, you will require a permit to re-enter Australia. It is your responsibility as the traveller and/or travel booker to meet all government entry requirements.
