This morning, depart from Madrid and drive to Avila, a city that preserves its medieval wall. Take a short stop to know its walled and old town and then head to Salamanca. Enjoy some free time in this University City Heritage of Humanity, known for its great architectural and artistic wealth. Depart to the Portuguese border until you reach Porto.
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before joining a panoramic sightseeing tour of Porto, considered as a World Heritage city. Admire the Cathedral, Stock Exchange building, and Santa Clara church. In the afternoon, enjoy some free time to discover more of this amazing city at your own pace.
Following breakfast at your hotel, depart to Coimbra City, home to one of the oldest universities in Europe and the birthplace of Fado. Enjoy some free time to explore this remarkable city before heading to Fatima. Fatima is best known as the centre of the Christian Faith and a World Pilgrimage Sanctuary with its impressive Basilica and the Cova da Iria place, where it is believed the Virgin Mary appeared. Visit the Chapel of the Apparitions, heart of the sanctuary, with the tombs of the three shepherds, Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta. At night, take the possibility to attend the procession of the candles.
After breakfast at your hotel, travel to the Batalha Monastery, a masterpiece of Gothic and Manueline style, considered a World Heritage place by UNESCO. Continue to the picturesque fishing town of Nazaré where you will have some free time before you travel on to Alcobaça (World Heritage) to visit the XII C. church and admire the tombs of Pedro and Inés de Castro. Arrive in Lisbon in the afternoon. This evening, there is an option to join a night tour to attend a show of Fado, typical Portuguese song and music (extra cost).
This morning, join a sightseeing tour of the ancient Olisipo. Drive through its main squares and avenues and see the Belem Tower, Jeronimos Monastery, Coach Museum, Monument to the Discoverers, Marquis of Pombal Square, and Liberty Avenue. This afternoon is at leisure for you to explore the nostalgic corners of Alfama Quarter, the old city full of colour housing the genuine “tabernas”.
Following breakfast at your hotel, depart to Caceres, considered as a World Heritage place because of the city’s blend of Roman, Islamic, Northern Gothic and Italian Renaissance architecture. Walk through its Plaza Mayor and the Old Town with its famous Medieval Quarter. Continue to Madrid where your tour concludes.
