Transfer from Zurich to St. Gallen via rail. Upon arrival, receive an Oskar Card, a special guest card for free public transport giving you access to the wonderful parts of Eastern Switzerland. After an exciting day in St. Gallen, hop on board the Voralpen Express and travel to the beautiful city of Lucerne. Hold your breath as you move uphill and over the 99-metre high Sitter Viaduct, a thrilling yet bucket list-worthy experience! Board a boat in Lucerne and cruise on its magnificent lake to Flüelen, where the Gotthard Panorama Express train awaits. Take another exciting rail journey following the famous Gotthard line that leads to a 15-kilometre long tunnel. Reach Ticino and continue to one of its adorable towns, Locarno. Take advantage of your Ticino Ticket and explore the area to your heart’s content. The last lap of your adventure is a scenic trip to Montreux via the Centovalli Railway, an incredible track traversing across jaw-dropping viaducts, ravines and hairpin turns. After a fabulous time in Montreux, return to Zurich.

Upon arrival, take a rail transfer from Zürich to St. Gallen. Upon arrival to your hotel, you will receive your Oskar Card – this includes public transport in the Cantons of Thurgau, St. Gallen, Appenzell Inner, and Ausserrhoden, Schaffhausen, Glarus and the Principality of Liechtenstein. Transport coverage in the area covered by Ostwind. Further discounts for excursions or free admission to cultural activities with the Oskar Card can be arranged locally.
Following breakfast at your hotel, enjoy day at leisure. Be sure to make the most of you Oskar Card.
After breakfast at your hotel, enjoy a leisurely walk to the train station. Board the Voralpen Express and travel across central Switzerland to Lucerne. Travel over undulating hills, past picturesque villages and lovely orchards. A highlight of the journey is the 99-metre-high Sitter viaduct and the rolling hills of the “Toggenburg”. Enjoy the remainder of the day discovering Lucerne at your own pace.
This morning after breakfast, walk to the train station and check-in at Lucerne landing quay and board the boat for the cruise to Flüelen. Lean back and enjoy the spectacular views of mountain peaks reflected in the crystal blue waters of Lake Lucerne. A light meal is served on board the ship. In Flüelen, walk the short distance to the train station and take your seats in the Gotthard Panorama Express. The world-famous Gotthard line swiftly climbs from 470 to about 1100 metres above sea level to finally enter the 15-kilometre-long Gotthard tunnel – Europe’s most important North/South gateway. After 10 minutes tunnel passage, you will arrive in the Mediterranean climate of Switzerland’s Italian speaking canton of Ticino. In the Leventina Valley, the Gotthard Express crosses breathtaking bridges and passes charming villages. At Bellinzona, change for regional services to Locarno. Overnight in Locarno.
Enjoy a relaxed breakfast at your hotel followed by a day at leisure in Locarno. You will be able to use your included Ticino Ticket to explore the area. You may wish to venture into the popular lakeside town of Ascona or even Lugano, which can be done using your Ticino Ticket.
This morning, you will board the Centovalli Railway and travel through the wild and impressive Centovalli (“hundred valleys”) landscape, from Locarno by Lago Maggiore to Domodossola in Italy. This nearly 60-kilometre-long, narrow gauge railway track leads across the dizzying heights of viaducts, past deep ravines and tremendous waterfalls, through sunlit chestnut forests and fertile vineyards, tunnels and hairpin bends. You will then continue your journey to Montreux via Brig and check into your hotel where the rest of the day is at leisure.
After breakfast at your hotel, you will take the train to Zürich Airport. End of tour.

- The Gotthard Panorama Express runs Tuesday to Sunday only from 18 April – 18 October. On all other days, the train follows the same route (no panorama carriage) with additional change in Erstfeld and lake cruise by motor ship instead of steamship.
