Transfer from Gotthard Railway to SBB service travelling through the Simplon Tunnel to the medieval Italian town of Domodossola. Hop aboard the Centovalli Railway for a journey across the "hundred valleys" taking you through dizzying heights of viaducts, deep ravines, waterfalls, chestnut forests and fertile vineyards. Spend a day exploring the Mediterranean vibe of Locarno and use your included Ticino ticket to visit the gorgeous lakeside resort of Ascona. Complete your Locarno adventure with a visit to the subtropical paradise of Brissago Island.

Itinerary
Upon arrival, transfer via rail from Zürich Airport to Zermatt and make your way to the hotel.
Breakfast at hotel. Leisurely walk to the Gornergrat Railway terminal in central Zermatt. A cogwheel train will transport you to an altitude of 3089m travelling across stunning bridges, through galleries and tunnels, idyllic forests, past gorges and mountain lakes. The iconic view from the Gornergrat platform is dominated by the Matterhorn.
This morning, you'll board a regional train service and travel to Brig. Here you will change trains and travel through the Simplon Tunnel to Domodossola in Italy. The next part of the journey takes in the wild and impressive Centovalli (“hundred valleys”) landscape, from Domodossola to Locarno by Lake Maggiore.
Today, using the included Ticino ticket, you can venture into nearby Ascona, a pretty lakeside resort with a quaint old town and picturesque promenade which is dotted with street cafes and boasts a Latin ambience. Later in the afternoon, continue along the shores of Lake Maggiore to the small town of Brissago. A connection by boat takes you to the unique Brissago Island, where the Botanical Gardens of the Canon of Ticino house around 1700 plant species.
