Originally established in 2009 as an educational train, El Expreso de la Robla seamlessly transitioned into offering tourist excursions alongside its educational endeavours. Following the conclusion of its educational programs, the train persisted in facilitating memorable tourist journeys throughout the narrow-gauge network of Northern Spain.

Day 1 León Cistierna

Begin your journey by checking in your luggage at Hotel Real Colegiata de San Isidoro in León starting from 12:00hrs. Following lunch, the bus will transport you to San Feliz, where El Expreso de La Robla awaits. Upon arrival, meet the crew, settle into your comparntment and transfer to Matallana. From there, embark on a captivating excursion through the spectacular Hoces de Vegacervera.

The next stop is Valporquero, renowned for its extraordinary Caves featuring stunning stalactites, stalagmites, and whimsical formations, including the impressive Gran Rotonda, an expansive underground space.

Return to the train for dinner and an overnight stay onboard in Cistierna.

Day 2 Cistierna Espinosa de Los Monteros

As you enjoy your first breakfast on board, the train will transport you to Guardo, a picturesque town in Palencia. From there, a bus will take you to explore the Roman Villa of La Olmeda, showcasing a remarkable collection of mosaics. Continuing your journey, discover some of Europe's finest Romanesque art along the Camino de Santiago, including visits to Saldaña, Carrión de los Condes, and Frómista, where lunch awaits.

After exploring the awe-inspiring San Martín temple and the Canal de Castilla, return to the train for your journey to Espinosa de los Monteros, a charming village nestled in the Merindades region of Burgos.

Conclude the day with dinner and an overnight stay in Espinosa.

Day 3 Espinosa de los Monteros Bilbao

Savour breakfast as you traverse the breathtaking landscape of the Valley of Mena en route to Bilbao. Upon arrival, guests will explore the city and visit the renowned Guggenheim Museum. Enjoy some free time before concluding our journey around 14:00.

STANDARD COMPARTMENT (UPPER & LOWER BERTH BUNKS only):
All compartments on El Expreso de La Robla feature bunk beds, two per compartment, along with amenities such as a luggage closet, reading light, air-conditioning, background music, loudspeakers and telephone. The modern and youthful ambiance ensures a comfortable rest. Each compartment includes its private bathroom equipped with a hydromassage shower, washbasin, toilet, and hairdryer. The electricity supply operates at 220 V. The train is entirely interconnected, allowing passengers to move freely throughout its length. With four sleeping cars, each car comprises seven compartments.

Can you book my international airfares?

On some Islands Holiday Packages (e.g. Fiji), it is practical to include flights, so where we have done this it is indicated by the plane icon.

However, on the majority of our Holiday Packages, we do not include international flights.

We found that many customers may prefer to:

Travel on a specific airline of their choice
Have the flexibility to book flights with Frequent Flyer points
Select flight dates that may be different to our Holiday Package start/end dates
Use a Travel Credit already held with the airline
Use their travel agent for this service

We are able to assist with flights on any Holiday Package, so please just notify us during the Book Now process or contact our team.

Should I take travel insurance?

Travel insurance is strongly recommended. During the Book Now process please confirm you require assistance, and our team will be in contact with you.

What should I do before travelling?

Before you travel it is your responsibility to ensure you have the appropriate documentation including visas. If you are travelling on a passport other than Australian or New Zealand, you will require a permit to re-enter Australia. It is your responsibility as the traveller and/or travel booker to meet all government entry requirements.
