Situated right on a calm side arm of Tagish Lake and amidst the boreal forest, the Southern Lakes Resort is an excellent getaway in style and comfort. You will spend three nights in luxurious cabins at the Southern Lake Resort. A beautiful setting with private and cosy log cabins, which lets you enjoy the beauty of Yukon’s backcountry. Traditional log cabins with a modern touch – you’ll feel right at home in your spacious cabin. Not to mention the view!

Day 1 Whitehorse Southern Lakes Resort

Depart Whitehorse by floatplane or shuttle (floatplane in autumn and shuttle in winter; the floatplane flight is approximately 20 minutes, and the shuttle transfer is approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes). Arrive at the resort and check into your private log-built cabin, nestled near the lakeside.

Although part of the compound, the cabins are set far enough from the main building and other guest buildings to create a true sense of privacy. Enjoy a delicious dinner prepared with Yukon flair in the main building. In the evening, look to the sky for the incredible Northern Lights as cascading emerald greens mix with vibrant pinks and blues in a dazzling display.

Day 2-3 Southern Lakes Resort

After breakfast, whether accompanying your guide through the local trails to track moose, wild sheep and other large inhabitants of the forest and lake lands, or strapping on snow shoes to complement your cold weather gear and trek across the crystalline wonder of a frozen winter world, the magic of the Yukon is yours to discover over the next two days. In the evening, watch for the Northern Lights, the most spectacular natural fireworks in the world.

The Southern Lakes Resort is the ideal place to unwind a few days to start or conclude your journey through the North. This lakeside restaurant offers homemade lake burgers as it is for juicy, perfectly grilled steaks or specialty dishes from our Chef with Swiss roots. Traditional log cabins with a modern touch – you’ll feel right at home in our spacious cabins. Not to mention the view – ah, the view! Every morning, you discover something new, a different light, the sun shining through the clouds, mist rising from the lake, or a squirrel running across your balcony.

Deluxe Villa

Overlooking Tagish Lake and its breathtaking scenery and with almost 600 square feet of living space, the Deluxe Villa Cabins are the most luxurious and spacious rooms at the Southern Lakes Resort.

The wide open living rooms, easily accommodating as many as two adults and one child, are appointed with an array of cushions, the perfect escape in which to relax during the day and recline in the evening enjoying the amazing view or with a bit of luck, the Aurora Borealis.

On a raised platform, your king sized bed provides supportive and splendid comfort. From there, you will awake each morning to the tranquility of wilderness living and the refreshingly clean lake air.

Dog Sledding Excursion

Embark on a dog sledding excursion you will be picked up by the musher family at the resort where you meet the friendly huskies and get your instruction. You will enjoy a 4-hour high-quality dogsled ride with professional gear and experienced mushing guides. Your adventure will take you through the trails and forests of the Southern Yukon. Some parts are on the frozen Tagish Lake, where you can enjoy great views on the surrounding mountains. The dogs are very well trained and socialised racing dogs and are powerful athletes with an eagerness to run. Operates during Winter Season departures only (1 December to 31 March).

Can you book my international airfares?

On some Islands Holiday Packages (e.g. Fiji), it is practical to include flights, so where we have done this it is indicated by the plane icon.

However, on the majority of our Holiday Packages, we do not include international flights.

We found that many customers may prefer to:

Travel on a specific airline of their choice
Have the flexibility to book flights with Frequent Flyer points
Select flight dates that may be different to our Holiday Package start/end dates
Use a Travel Credit already held with the airline
Use their travel agent for this service

We are able to assist with flights on any Holiday Package, so please just notify us during the Book Now process or contact our team.

Should I take travel insurance?

Travel insurance is strongly recommended. During the Book Now process please confirm you require assistance, and our team will be in contact with you.

What should I do before travelling?

Before you travel it is your responsibility to ensure you have the appropriate documentation including visas. If you are travelling on a passport other than Australian or New Zealand, you will require a permit to re-enter Australia. It is your responsibility as the traveller and/or travel booker to meet all government entry requirements.
