Whether you’re a wolf lover dreaming of seeing and hearing them in the wild, a photographer chasing National Geographic-worthy images, or a naturalist craving field experience—or all three!—This 10-day cloud wolves expedition will take you on an unforgettable journey.

The base is the beautiful Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge in the heart of the Kaska Coast of southern Hudson Bay, an uninhabited wilderness ten times the size of Yellowstone National Park. Far from civilization and never hunted, the resident packs of cloud wolves (Canis lupus nubilus) have no fear of humans, making for encounters and photography unrivalled anywhere else in the world.

Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge is a remarkable retreat situated on the rugged shores of Hudson Bay, deep within the heart of the Canadian Arctic. This secluded haven offers an extraordinary opportunity to connect with the Arctic wilderness in a way few places on Earth can match. Guests at Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge are treated to an unforgettable experience, surrounded by the pristine beauty of remote tundra landscapes and the awe-inspiring presence of polar bears. The lodge itself, while designed with comfort in mind, maintains a deep respect for the natural environment, ensuring minimal impact on the delicate ecosystems of the region. Expert naturalists and guides lead guests on captivating wildlife safaris, providing unique insights into the lives of these magnificent creatures and the overall ecology of the Arctic. Whether you are a passionate wildlife enthusiast, a dedicated photographer, or simply someone seeking an unparalleled adventure, Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge is a destination that promises a deep connection with nature and an opportunity to witness the Arctic's wild wonders up close.

Day 3 - 8 Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge

Enjoy a hearty breakfast while the lead guide briefs you on what the scouts are reporting and their plan of attack for the day. After breakfast, it’s time to head on safari! These daily safaris (usually one in the morning and one in the afternoon) are a chance for you to track the wolf packs and get you as close as possible to observe and photograph their behavior and social interactions. While it’s often possible to observe wolves right from the viewing decks at the lodge, wolves regularly travel to hunt and mark their territory; they can easily cover 40km a day. Keep in close radio contact with the scouts as they monitor activity at various points along the coast. With the small group size and high-guide ratio, all are able move quickly along a network of established safari trails. After morning safaris, you’ll head back to the lodge to enjoy a light lunch and some well-earned downtime. By early afternoon you'll head back into the field. Some days, depending on wildlife and weather, you may opt for an all-day safari and extend the range.

For those interested in becoming involved with Churchill Wild's citizen-science wolf study, the safaris are also a chance to conduct fieldwork. Depending on the weather and wildlife situation, you may have opportunities to collect trailcam images, cast animal tracks, study social relationships, map territories, conduct and record howl surveys, and gather traditional knowledge from First Nation oral histories. Participants' contributions will become part of the yearly study.

Evenings at Nanuk are a chance to unwind and enjoy a nightly happy hour with a short presentation on wolf biology and natural history, storytelling and wildlife photography, followed by a delicious dinner and socializing around the fire.

The Kaska Coast boasts over 300 nights a year of Auroral activity, making it one of the best places in the world to see the dazzling Northern Lights. March weather is cooler and can offer more crisp clear nights increasing the chance for Aurora viewing. If the sky is clear and the solar winds are active, Churchill Wild will be sure and wake you up for a dazzling show. Jad will be on hand to help you set up your cameras and capture the haunting beauty.

This is your expedition. While Churchill Wild wants to offer you as many experiences as possible, they will also encourage you to relax. Take an afternoon or morning off (or a couple) and have the lodge to yourself. They'll stoke the fire, pour you some coffee and leave you with some tasty brownies. Some of the best wildlife viewing happens right from the lodge. You never know who might wander up to the window and look in on you.

At Entire Travel Group, our focus is Independent Holiday Packages. Available daily, they are pre-designed, purpose built, packaged itineraries full of memorable experiences delivered by our hand-picked local partners.

Our holidays suit every demographic, from couples to singles, to retirees to families and everyone else in between.

Can you book my international airfares?

On some Islands Holiday Packages (e.g. Fiji), it is practical to include flights, so where we have done this it is indicated by the plane icon.

However, on the majority of our Holiday Packages, we do not include international flights.

We found that many customers may prefer to:

  • Travel on a specific airline of their choice
  • Have the flexibility to book flights with Frequent Flyer points
  • Select flight dates that may be different to our Holiday Package start/end dates
  • Use a Travel Credit already held with the airline
  • Use their travel agent for this service

We are able to assist with flights on any Holiday Package, so please just notify us during the Book Now process or contact our team.

Should I take travel insurance?

Travel insurance is strongly recommended. During the Book Now process please confirm you require assistance, and our team will be in contact with you.

What should I do before travelling?

Before you travel it is your responsibility to ensure you have the appropriate documentation including visas. If you are travelling on a passport other than Australian or New Zealand, you will require a permit to re-enter Australia. It is your responsibility as the traveller and/or travel booker to meet all government entry requirements.

For more information please visit - Before you travel | Entire Travel Group
