Overview

Accessible only by water, Klahoose Wilderness Resort offers a rare opportunity to experience the wild coast of British Columbia through the stewardship of the Klahoose First Nation. This seasonal journey focuses on the marine richness of Desolation Sound, combining wildlife viewing, cultural experiences and time to slow down in a pristine natural setting.

From spring through summer, calm protected waters provide excellent conditions for whale watching, with regular sightings of humpback whales, orcas, dolphins, sea lions and bald eagles. Boat‑based excursions may also reveal black bears or grizzly bears feeding along the shoreline, depending on seasonal conditions.

Every stay is enriched by meaningful cultural connections, including storytelling, traditional ceremonies, cedar weaving, kayaking and moments of relaxation in the wood‑fired sauna. Day 1 Vancouver Klahoose Wilderness Resort

Your journey begins at Vancouver South Terminal for your flight with Pacific Coastal Airlines to Powell River. Upon arrivel in Powell River you will receive a land transfer to Lund. Depart Lund Harbour and travel by boat through the sheltered waterways of Desolation Sound, keeping watch for marine wildlife along the way. Upon arrival at Klahoose Wilderness Resort, receive a welcome orientation from your Klahoose First Nations hosts before settling into your cabin.

Enjoy your first dinner at the lodge, followed by an evening cultural welcome featuring storytelling and insights into Klahoose traditions and connection to the land.

Day 2 Klahoose Wilderness Resort

After breakfast, venture out with a Klahoose guide on a 4–5 hour boat tour through Desolation Sound. Watch for humpbacks, orcas, dolphins, sea lions, eagles, and black bears. In spring (May to mid-June), enjoy exclusive grizzly and black bear viewing by boat.

Return to the lodge for lunch and time to relax, kayak or enjoy the views from the waterfront. In the afternoon take part in storytelling, cedar weaving, a traditional welcome, and a cedar-brushing-off ceremony—designed to clear energy and connect you to the land.

Day 3 Klahoose Wilderness Resort

Begin the day with breakfast before heading out. Journey to the ancestral village site of Ahpokum for a meaningful half-day cultural experience. Participate in a traditional bathing ceremony and learn about Klahoose heritage firsthand.

In ther afternoon, enjoy leisure time at the resort. Unwind your way: ocean kayaking, paddle boarding, rainforest hiking, swimming, wood-fired sauna, or a tour of our micro-hydro power system.

Day 4 Klahoose Wilderness Resort Vancouver

Enjoy one final breakfast at the lodge, before heading to the dock early afternoon for your water taxi transfer back to Lund. Upon arrival in Lund, an airport shuttle will be waiting to take you back to Powell River Airport. From there, connect for your flight back to Vancouver!

Can you book my international airfares?

On some Islands Holiday Packages (e.g. Fiji), it is practical to include flights, so where we have done this it is indicated by the plane icon.

However, on the majority of our Holiday Packages, we do not include international flights.

We found that many customers may prefer to:

Travel on a specific airline of their choice
Have the flexibility to book flights with Frequent Flyer points
Select flight dates that may be different to our Holiday Package start/end dates
Use a Travel Credit already held with the airline
Use their travel agent for this service

We are able to assist with flights on any Holiday Package, so please just notify us during the Book Now process or contact our team.

Should I take travel insurance?

Travel insurance is strongly recommended. During the Book Now process please confirm you require assistance, and our team will be in contact with you.

What should I do before travelling?

Before you travel it is your responsibility to ensure you have the appropriate documentation including visas. If you are travelling on a passport other than Australian or New Zealand, you will require a permit to re-enter Australia. It is your responsibility as the traveller and/or travel booker to meet all government entry requirements.
