Overview

The lodge is located in an extraordinary area where the world’s most interconnected fjord system, the world’s largest temperate rainforest, and a dramatic mountain landscape of glaciers, plunging creeks, pristine rivers, and granite cliffs converge. Much of the area is now protected as part of The Great Bear Rainforest or Tweedsmuir Provincial Park. The area is renowned for its abundant wildlife and is one of the most pristine grizzly bear habitats in the world. The historic lodge has been welcoming guests since 1929.

August is the start of the salmon run and is an exciting time to witness grizzly bears as they emerge from the subalpine. As salmon swim upstream, bears begin to move down to the surrounding river banks in search of protein rich enhancements to their spring diet of bulbs and berries. Through an immersive itinerary of river drifts, interpretive nature walks, and assisted climbing adventures, the team of professional wilderness and wildlife guides will offer educational insights into the behaviour of these impressive animals as well as the diversity of their habitat.

September is the peak of the salmon run and is a terrific time to witness grizzly bears catching and feasting on salmon along the banks of the Atnarko River. The lodge’s close proximity to the river, along with its private viewing platform, allows for ample opportunities for frequent and diverse encounters. Self-directed viewing opportunities are supplemented by a curated combination of Grizzly Bear Viewing River Drifts and Grizzly Bear Ecology Walking Tours. Each day, the team of professional wilderness and wildlife guides will lead awe-inspiring interpretive excursions into the everyday lives of these remarkable animals.

October is the tail end of the salmon run and the remnants of the fall feast attract other animals in abundance. As the bears move their feeding into the forest, the nutrient-dense deposits fuel the fall foliage, beginning its annual transformation into a colourful collage. By now, the bears are typically well fed, their movements have slowed, and their feeding and migration patterns are well understood. As a result, Autumn offers exceptional opportunities for photographers to capture impressive images of both wildlife and the environment.

Day 2 Tweedsmuir Park Lodge

The day starts early with a walk to the Wildlife Viewing Stations reserved for the exclusive use of Tweedsmuir Park Lodge guests. Early morning is a great time to spot bears and the raised structures provide open lines of sight along the river. After checking out the platforms you have a choice of a hot or continental breakfast, then it’s time to meet your guide for a drift on the Atnarko River in search of more bears. It’s a great time to enjoy a scenic float - during the quietest time of day. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, meet your guide for an Interpretive nature walk in the old growth forests of Tweedsmuir Park, the largest provincial park in British Columbia. Your naturalist guide will show you how to track bears, and will point out various bear signs, including rub trees and places the bears dig out in the forest floor for naps. Arrive back at the lodge in the late afternoon for hors d’oeuvres on the sun deck of the lodge, exchanging stories of wildlife seen with your fellow guests.

Can you book my international airfares?

On some Islands Holiday Packages (e.g. Fiji), it is practical to include flights, so where we have done this it is indicated by the plane icon.

However, on the majority of our Holiday Packages, we do not include international flights.

We found that many customers may prefer to:

  • Travel on a specific airline of their choice
  • Have the flexibility to book flights with Frequent Flyer points
  • Select flight dates that may be different to our Holiday Package start/end dates
  • Use a Travel Credit already held with the airline
  • Use their travel agent for this service

We are able to assist with flights on any Holiday Package, so please just notify us during the Book Now process or contact our team.

Should I take travel insurance?

Travel insurance is strongly recommended. During the Book Now process please confirm you require assistance, and our team will be in contact with you.

What should I do before travelling?

Before you travel it is your responsibility to ensure you have the appropriate documentation including visas. If you are travelling on a passport other than Australian or New Zealand, you will require a permit to re-enter Australia. It is your responsibility as the traveller and/or travel booker to meet all government entry requirements.

For more information please visit - Before you travel | Entire Travel Group

How does a Travel Agent make a booking?

How do I start a Booking?

  • On any page that has Book Now simply follow the booking process.
