Explore the medieval cities of Assisi and Siena en route to Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance and the sanctuary of many famous Italian artists. Continue to Venice, Italy’s Floating City, via Bologna and Padua. Discover the highlights of religious and ancient Rome at the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel. Depart at 7:15 a.m. by deluxe coach to Assisi, a medieval town surrounded by ancient walls. Visit the Basilica of St. Francis, featuring frescoes by Giotto and Cimabue and enjoy a lunch in Assisi.

Continue toSiena, UNESCO-listed and famous for its shell-shaped Piazza del Campo and Palio horse race. Next, you will continue to Florence, where you will check in at your hotel.

Day 2 Florence

Explore Florence, cradle of the Renaissance. Visit the Duomo, Brunelleschi’s Dome, Giotto’s Bell Tower, and Baptistery. See Piazza della Signoria, Palazzo Vecchio, and Santa Croce Basilica. Enjoy lunch in a traditional Tuscan restaurant.

In the afternoon, choose between free time in the city or an optional visit to Pisa, with its Leaning Tower and Piazza dei Miracoli.

Dinner is at leisure.

Day 3 Florence Bologna Mestre

Depart for Bologna and enjoy a walking tour through its arcaded streets, visiting Piazza Maggiore, the Basilica of San Petronio, and historic landmarks.

We will continue our journey to Venice (Mestre). Upon arrival, check in at your hotel for a restful overnight stay.

After lunch, take some free time before heading back to Rome, where the tour concludes.

Day 9 Sorrento Capri Sorrento

After breakfast, get ready for an exciting excursion to the island of Capri: one of the most exclusive summer destinations of the Mediterranean! Depending on the weather and sea conditions, you will admire the dreamy Blue Grotto on a small rowboat.

Afterward, time to roam the island at your own pace. 

Once back on the mainland, return to the hotel for dinner and your last overnight in Sorrento.

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, and then head out on a morning excursion to Monreale, recently included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, an ancient royal town famous for its almonds, olive oil, and citrus fruits, as well as for its fine Norman architecture. Visit the elaborate Cathedral of Monreale and then enjoy shopping at the local delicatessen and souvenirs.

Back to Palermo and continue with a walking tour of the city. Wander the streets of the Old Town, hearing tales of Palermo’s 3,000- year history and discovering attractions like Palermo Cathedral. Walk inside the impressive-looking place of worship and marvel at its arches, cupolas, and mosaics - with an incredible mix of influences coming from several dominations on the island. Enjoy free time in the late afternoon.

Day 13 Palermo Erice Marsala Agrigento

Travel to Erice, a well-preserved medieval village with ancient charm. Continue to Marsala for a light lunch and wine tasting in a traditional winery. After this flavorful experience, head to Agrigento.

Visit the Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO site, and explore ruins like the Temple of Concord, Hercules, and Jupiter. Check in to your hotel.

In the late afternoon, arrive in Taormina, check in to your hotel, and enjoy dinner.

Breakfast at the hotel and travel to Noto, a picturesque fishing town popular for its stately Baroque architecture. After the visit, cross one of the city’s bridges to visit the island of Ortygia - the most ancient part of Syracuse - home to a wealth of Baroque churches and medieval palaces.

Arrive in Taormina and check-in to your hotel.

Day 16 Taormina Mount Etna Taormina

Breakfast at your hotel and then head off to Mount Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe and the highest mountain in Italy. Learn about volcanic activity and marvel at the old lava fields and black magma rock that comprises Etna’s landscape. If weather permits, you have a chance to climb to the summit (1800m).

Lastly, return to Taormina, the beautiful and romantic town on Mount Tauro. Return to Taormina in the afternoon and spend the rest of your day at leisure.

Can you book my international airfares?

On some Islands Holiday Packages (e.g. Fiji), it is practical to include flights, so where we have done this it is indicated by the plane icon.

However, on the majority of our Holiday Packages, we do not include international flights.

We found that many customers may prefer to:

  • Travel on a specific airline of their choice
  • Have the flexibility to book flights with Frequent Flyer points
  • Select flight dates that may be different to our Holiday Package start/end dates
  • Use a Travel Credit already held with the airline
  • Use their travel agent for this service

We are able to assist with flights on any Holiday Package, so please just notify us during the Book Now process or contact our team.

Should I take travel insurance?

Travel insurance is strongly recommended. During the Book Now process please confirm you require assistance, and our team will be in contact with you.

What should I do before travelling?

Before you travel it is your responsibility to ensure you have the appropriate documentation including visas. If you are travelling on a passport other than Australian or New Zealand, you will require a permit to re-enter Australia. It is your responsibility as the traveller and/or travel booker to meet all government entry requirements.
