Day 2 St. Paul's Bay Valetta St. Paul's Bay

Begin your journey with a private guided tour of Valletta.

Valletta, Malta’s Capital City and a World Heritage site, is nothing short of an open‐ air museum. Valletta known as Il‐Belt, contains buildings from the 16th century onwards, built during the rule of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, also known as Knights Hospitaller. The city is essentially Baroque in character with elements of Mannerist, Neo‐Classical and Modern architecture in selected area, though World War II left major scars on the city. The City of Valletta was officially recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1980. The city is named for Jean Parisot de la Valette, who succeeded in defending the island from an Ottoman invasion in 1565. The official name given by the Order of Saint John was ‘Humilissima Civitas Valletta’ – The Most Humble City of Valletta or Citta’ Umilissima in Italian. The bastions, curtains and ravelins along with the beauty of its Baroque palaces, gardens and churches, led the ruling houses of Europe to give the city its nickname Superbissima – Most Proud.

During the tour you will walk through the bustling streets and to Barracca Gardens for a breathtaking panorama of the Grand Harbour. You will then visit St. John’s Co‐Cathedral where you will see the painting ‘The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist’ by Caravaggio, considered one of Caravaggio’s masterpieces and the only painting signed by the painter and the Grand Master’s Palace, where you’ll dive into the island’s rich history.

In the evening, free time to explore and dine at your leisure.

Day 3 St. Paul's Bay Mdina Rabat St. Paul's Bay

Step into history as you visit Mdina, the Silent City, where medieval alleys transport you to another era.

Explore St. Paul’s Cathedral and venture into Rabat’s early Christian catacombs, gaining insight into Malta’s deep‐rooted religious traditions. Mdina, Malta’s ancient capital. It rests in a very majestic way, on top of a hilltop right at the centre of the island. Mdina is also called ‘The Silent City’ because of its literally quiet and narrow streets that give off a quaint yet very homey atmosphere. Mdina is not only considered to be one of Malta’s precious jewels, but this ancient walled city is one of the best medieval fortifications. You will see magnificent views of the entire Maltese landscape.

The day concludes with breathtaking panoramic views from Malta’s coastal cliffs and scenic bays. In the evening, return to your hotel and dine at your leisure.

Day 4 St. Paul's Bay Gozo Valetta St. Paul's Bay

Today, the journey takes you to Gozo, an island rich in history, legends, and breathtaking landscapes. The day begins with a visit to the Ġgantija Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage site older than the Egyptian pyramids, where you will experience the mystical aura surrounding these ancient megalithic structures.

The exploration continues in Victoria, the island’s capital, with a stop at the Citadel, a fortified city that has been a place of refuge since medieval times. Victoria is the name given in 1897 by the British government on the occasion of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, at the request of the Bishop of Malta, Mons. Sir Pietro Pace. However Gozitans still often refer to it by its old name, Rabat. The area around Victoria, situated on a hill near the centre of the island has been settled since Neolithic times. In the centre of Victoria lies The Cittadella, a historic fortified city. The Cittadella also called at The Citadel, is on Malta’s tentative list of future World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, who describes it as a small fortified town. From its high bastions, enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the entire island.

The adventure proceeds to Ramla Bay, a beach known for its unique reddish sand, followed by a visit to Fungus Rock, an iconic limestone formation standing guard at the entrance of Dwejra Bay. After a day immersed in history and natural beauty, return to Valletta. During the evening, return to your hotel and dine at your leisure

Day 5 St. Paul's Bay The Three Cities Marsaxlokk St. Paul's Bay

Dedicate the day to uncovering the charm of the Three Cities: Vittoriosa, Senglea, and Cospicua, historic gems that predate Valletta. A private guided tour with local experts reveals the authentic cultural essence of Malta. The Three Cities is a collective description of the three fortified cities of Cospicua, Vittoriosa and Senglea.

During the tour you will drive past Cospicua, a double‐fortified harbour city and the largest of the three. It was also given a title as Citta’ Cottonera, but erroneously the title is now used to define the whole region. You will then arrive in Vittoriosa. Vittoriosa is ideally situated for safe anchorage and over time it has developed a very long history with maritime, mercantile and military activities. Prior to the establishment of Valletta as capital and main city of Malta, military powers that wanted to rule the Maltese islands would need to obtain control of Vittoriosa due to its significant position in the Grand Harbour.

The third city Senglea is also called Civitas Invicta because it managed to resist the Ottoman invasion at the Great Siege of 1565. The name Senglea was given by the grandmaster who built it, Claude De La Sengle. The island on which Senglea lies was joined by a land bridge to Cospicua during the time of the Knights of St. John and as a result, it became peninsular in shape. During this tour you will walk through the various narrow streets shaded by many historic churches and buildings.

Next, visit Marsaxlokk, a picturesque fishing village renowned for its traditional luzzu boats and lively market. Marsaxlokk is a very popular attraction for tourists and locals because fresh fish and seafood caught during the same morning can be bought. The market is very interesting and attractive as many different items are sold. Although the market was originally a fish market, it has developed and now it also sells locally produced honey, fruit jams, wine as well as vegetables, souvenirs and clothes.

Enjoy a seafood lunch at a local restaurant, indulging in the fresh flavors of Maltese cuisine.

Afterwards, you can return to your hotel or explore the city on your own.

  • Select flight dates that may be different to our Holiday Package start/end dates
  • Use a Travel Credit already held with the airline
  • Use their travel agent for this service

We are able to assist with flights on any Holiday Package, so please just notify us during the Book Now process or contact our team.

Travel insurance is strongly recommended. During the Book Now process please confirm you require assistance, and our team will be in contact with you.
