Highlights

A friendly horse for every rider

Catch a glimpse of the enormous Brewster Glacier and the rock faces of the Sundance Range

Relax in backcountry rustic comfort at Sundance Lodge

Experience rugged mountain scenery and an abundance of wildlife.

On this adventure you’ll spend two nights at Sundance Lodge – a wonderful and unique backcountry haven. Your days will be spent exploring on horseback and your evenings relaxing in the cozy lodge, sharing delicious hearty meals, delectable desserts and great conversation with your fellow riders.

Completed in 1991, Sundance Lodge now sits on the original site of the horse corral for Ten-Mile cabin, built by Canadian Pacific Railway back in the 1920’s. The original cabin itself remains standing and was declared a historical site in 1990. It was used as a refuge for mountain guides and packers traveling to Mount Assiniboine, whose names you can still see carved into the logs. Sundance Lodge sits alongside a gentle curve on Brewster Creek, with the Sundance Mountain range as a backdrop. Built entirely with pine logs, the lodge has 10 sleeping rooms, with 3 beds in each room and shared facilities. The lodge also has a large country kitchen, and a cozy living room area where you can curl up by the woodstove and lose yourself in a good book.

Day 1
Banff → Sundance Lodge

You’ll begin your journey at 9.30am at Warner Stables in Banff. The horses are steady, responsive and can be counted on to cross any terrain, from forest paths to boulder-strewn creeks. Never been horseback riding before? Don’t worry. You will be matched with a mild-mannered horse and teach you everything you need to know.

Once you and your horse are ready to go, we will mount up for the 10 mile ride along the banks of the sparkling glacier-fed Bow River, Brewster and Healy Creeks. We’ll stop along the way for a hot lunch on the river banks, then late afternoon we will arrive at Sundance Lodge.

This unique and rustic lodge offers you a chance to experience the Canadian backcountry, while relaxing in comfort. You’ll arrive to a hot cup of tea or coffee, a warm shower, a soft bed and the friendly greeting of your lodge host. Each host has a way of making the lodge their own, catering in your every need and cooking you delicious meals.

On today’s ride you’ll catch a glimpse of the enormous Brewster Glacier and the rock faces of the Sundance Range as you ride along the footsteps of the original pioneers. We will stop for lunch along the trail and enjoy an open-air picnic in this unforgettable setting. At the end of the day, you’ll return to your familiar room at Sundance Lodge, where you already feel comfortable and at home. As the sun sets behind the mountains, you can sit back on the deck and relax, drink wine and share stories and photos with your fellow adventurers.

Banff
Sundance Lodge, and being only 16 kilometers (10 miles) from Banff, feels lonely and solitary, set against the imposing Sundance Mountain Range and surrounded by dense woodlands. The log cottage, which has ten rooms, was constructed in 1991 using locally obtained wood. It's close to the old Ten-Mile Cabin, which served as a rest stop for trail riders on their way to Mount Assiniboine back in 1923.

Our holidays suit every demographic, from couples to singles, to retirees to families and everyone else in between.

Can you book my international airfares?

On some Islands Holiday Packages (e.g. Fiji), it is practical to include flights, so where we have done this it is indicated by the plane icon.

However, on the majority of our Holiday Packages, we do not include international flights.

We found that many customers may prefer to:

  • Travel on a specific airline of their choice
  • Have the flexibility to book flights with Frequent Flyer points
  • Select flight dates that may be different to our Holiday Package start/end dates
  • Use a Travel Credit already held with the airline
  • Use their travel agent for this service

We are able to assist with flights on any Holiday Package, so please just notify us during the Book Now process or contact our team.

Why do some packages not offer the ability to Book Now on the website?

If a package on our website does not include our Peace of Mind Booking Plan, it will not be available to Book Now.

Due to the boutique nature and limited capacity of some travel experiences offered, they have strict payment and cancellation policies. (e.g., a remote bear lodge in Canada with only a few cabins).

Although technically possible, we have decided that it is impractical for us to try and sell these type of travel services on-line. We believe it is important that such product is discussed, so that we can ensure these strict payment and cancellation policies are understood before we proceed with a booking.

For such product we may act as an agent only for the principal suppliers. Where we act as agent, your contract for the delivery of travel arrangements will be with the principal supplier and will be subject to their Booking Conditions.

We will advise you prior to confirming your booking if we are acting as agent and we will confirm the details of the principal supplier. Our responsibility to you where we sell travel arrangements as agent for the supplier is specified in the ‘Responsibility’ section of our Booking Conditions.

Should I take travel insurance?

Travel insurance is strongly recommended. During the Book Now process please confirm you require assistance, and our team will be in contact with you.

What should I do before travelling?

Before you travel it is your responsibility to ensure you have the appropriate documentation including visas. If you are travelling on a passport other than Australian or New Zealand, you will require a permit to re-enter Australia. It is your responsibility as the traveller and/or travel booker to meet all government entry requirements.

How does a Travel Agent make a booking?

Please visit the Entire Travel Group's Agent Portal. We are here to support our industry partners with a range of informative updates, marketing collateral for campaigns and a reward & recognition program.

How do I start a Booking?

  • On any page that has Book Now simply follow the booking process.
  • You must select the Travel Agent tick box and provide correct details.
  • To confirm a booking only the refundable deposit is required.
  • An agency credit card must be used for this initial payment.
