Arriving at Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria, you can rejuvenate in your suite before convening with fellow travellers in the lounge cars. The journey commences along the eastern line, heading towards the rugged Emalahleni coal-mining region and Middelburg, recognized as Africa's hub for stainless steel production.

Day 2 Paranoma Route

Begin your day with a relaxed breakfast in the charming dining cars before embarking on a full-day tour of historical sites such as Pilgrim’s Rest, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, and Graskop, complete with lunch.

Return to the train in Mbombela (140 km), which then departs for Malelane. Conclude the day with a delightful dinner served in the dining cars.

Day 3 Kruger National Park

Start your day aboard with a delightful breakfast served in the dining cars. At 07:00am, prepare for an exhilarating full-day game viewing adventure in the Kruger Park, complete with a satisfying lunch.

Return by 4:30pm for a relaxing tea session in the lounge and observation cars as the journey continues towards Maputo, Mozambique. Border formalities will be attended to during this time. Wind down your day with a sumptuous dinner served in the dining cars at 19:30.

Day 4 Maputo, Mozambique

Explore the vibrant capital of Mozambique, Maputo, a city brimming with cultural diversity and architectural contrasts. Experience its unique blend of African, Portuguese, and Colonial influences, where old Catholic churches stand alongside mosques, fortresses, and Victorian mansions, showcasing a rich historical tapestry.

Start your day aboard the Rovos Rail with breakfast served in the dining cars at 07:00am. Immerse yourself in a city tour of Maputo, Mozambique, discovering its charm and history, followed by a delightful lunch.

Return to the train by 4:30pm for a tranquil tea session in the lounge and observation cars as the journey continues towards Mpaka, Eswatini. Border formalities will be completed during this leg of the trip. Conclude your day with a splendid dinner served in the dining cars.

Day 5 Eswatini

Discover the picturesque Kingdom of Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), spanning 17,000 square kilometers, predominantly characterized by its mountainous terrain. Despite its size, this kingdom proudly maintains two capitals: Mbabane, serving as the administrative hub, and Lobamba, the royal and legislative center. Renamed eSwatini in April 2018, meaning "place of the Swazi," it remains an absolute monarchy.

Commence your day with a delicious breakfast served in the dining cars. Disembark at Mpaka for transfers to explore Swazi Candles and the captivating Mantenga Cultural Village, where lunch awaits at Mantenga Lodge.

Return to the train at in the afternoon as it departs for Hoedspruit, experiencing border formalities en route.

Relax with tea in the lounge and observation cars. Conclude your day with a delightful dinner served at 7:30pm  in the dining cars.

Day 12 Victoria Falls

Start your morning with a leisurely breakfast served until 9:30 am aboard the train. Upon arrival at Victoria Falls station by 10:00am, check out and take a short stroll to the iconic Victoria Falls Hotel. At 11:00am, gather for an enriching walking tour of the village and the majestic falls, accompanied by a delightful lunch experience.

Later in the afternoon, reconvene at the hotel by 4:00pm for a picturesque sunset cruise along the Zambezi River. At 6:30pm, transfer back to the Victoria Falls Hotel, marking the conclusion of the tour.

The Pullman Golds, used on long journeys, accommodate one or two passengers and have an en-suite bathroom with shower, toilet and basin. During the day, the suites are setup with split twin beds configured as sofa-seats (optional) with a conversion to split twin or double beds for the evening. Please dress accordingly for excursions/game drives: mornings can be cool then warm up considerably; afternoons can be warm then cool down considerably. Can you book my international airfares?

On some Islands Holiday Packages (e.g. Fiji), it is practical to include flights, so where we have done this it is indicated by the plane icon.

However, on the majority of our Holiday Packages, we do not include international flights.

We found that many customers may prefer to:

  • Travel on a specific airline of their choice
  • Have the flexibility to book flights with Frequent Flyer points
  • Select flight dates that may be different to our Holiday Package start/end dates
  • Use a Travel Credit already held with the airline
  • Use their travel agent for this service

We are able to assist with flights on any Holiday Package, so please just notify us during the Book Now process or contact our team.

Should I take travel insurance?

Travel insurance is strongly recommended. During the Book Now process please confirm you require assistance, and our team will be in contact with you.

What should I do before travelling?

Before you travel it is your responsibility to ensure you have the appropriate documentation including visas. If you are travelling on a passport other than Australian or New Zealand, you will require a permit to re-enter Australia. It is your responsibility as the traveller and/or travel booker to meet all government entry requirements.
