After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, embark on a scenic four-hour journey to Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s first royal capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated for its spirituality and grandeur. With your private guide, visit the iconic Ruwanweliseya Stupa and the awe-inspiring Jethawanaramaya, once among the tallest monuments in the world. After breakfast, proceed to Hiriwadunna (approximately 30 minutes’ drive) for an immersive village experience. Travel by traditional bullock cart along the scenic Hiriwadunna Lake, passing tree houses, paddy fields, and Chena cultivations. Enjoy welcome refreshments and a short village walk before being warmly hosted in a local home for a traditional Sri Lankan lunch, prepared over firewood in earthenware pots. This intimate experience offers a genuine glimpse into the warmth and simplicity of rural Sri Lankan life.

In the afternoon, continue to Minneriya National Park (approximately 30 minutes’ drive) for an exciting private safari. Located in Sri Lanka’s North Central Province, the park is renowned for close encounters with elephants and other wildlife, including endemic monkeys, birds, and reptiles. At its heart lies the ancient Minneriya Tank, which transforms into verdant grasslands during the dry season. After breakfast at the resort, drive approximately 30 minutes to Nanuoya Train Station and embark on the scenic train journey to Ella (approximately 2.5 hours). Considered one of Sri Lanka’s most picturesque rail routes, the ride passes lush tea plantations, cascading waterfalls, and rolling highlands, offering breathtaking views. Guests can enjoy the journey from either the Observation Wagon or the Ella Odyssey train, immersing themselves in the sights and aromas of the island’s famous Ceylon tea.

Upon arrival in Ella, continue by road (approximately 3 hours) to Yala, where you will check in at the hotel and spend the evening at leisure.

Can you book my international airfares?

On some Islands Holiday Packages (e.g. Fiji), it is practical to include flights, so where we have done this it is indicated by the plane icon.

However, on the majority of our Holiday Packages, we do not include international flights.

We found that many customers may prefer to:

  • Travel on a specific airline of their choice
  • Have the flexibility to book flights with Frequent Flyer points
  • Select flight dates that may be different to our Holiday Package start/end dates
  • Use a Travel Credit already held with the airline
  • Use their travel agent for this service

We are able to assist with flights on any Holiday Package, so please just notify us during the Book Now process or contact our team.

Should I take travel insurance?

Travel insurance is strongly recommended. During the Book Now process please confirm you require assistance, and our team will be in contact with you.

What should I do before travelling?

Before you travel it is your responsibility to ensure you have the appropriate documentation including visas. If you are travelling on a passport other than Australian or New Zealand, you will require a permit to re-enter Australia. It is your responsibility as the traveller and/or travel booker to meet all government entry requirements.
