Day 1-3 Zürich

Zürich is Switzerland's largest city, known for its vibrant cultural scene, historic Old Town, and picturesque location on the shores of Lake Zürich. It is a hub of finance and innovation, offering a mix of modern amenities and charming Swiss traditions.

On your arrival day, why not explore the Old Town or arrange the Made in Zürich Tour (supplement applies) to familiarise yourself with this fantastic city. The Old Town with its festive light decorations will give you the perfect welcome in the winter season.

During your stay, take advantage of the numerous free activities with your Swiss Travel Pass in and around the surrounding region. A lake cruise offering panoramic views of the city and snow-capped mountains is a superb way to start, especially when combined with the Lindt Home of Chocolate (supplement applies).

Zürich also has a wide variety of museums, many of which are included free of charge with your Swiss Travel Pass. A good example is the National Museum, detailing Switzerland's cultural history with many pictures and texts. Don’t forget that you can also use the Swiss Travel Pass to travel freely on buses and trams within the city, so you can hop quickly and easily between museums.

If you’re looking for something different, consider using your pass to visit nearby towns such as Rapperswil and Schaffhausen, or the impressive Rhine Falls – all just a short train journey away.

Overnight stay at Zürich in a 3-star hotel or similar.

Day 4-6 Zürich Lucerne

Today use your Swiss Travel Pass to travel the short distance from Zürich to Lucerne by train.

Lucerne, located in the heart of Switzerland, is a picturesque city famous for its well-preserved medieval architecture, stunning lakefront, and proximity to the Swiss Alps. The city's highlights include the Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke), the Water Tower, and the Lion Monument. With its beautiful setting on Lake Lucerne and its rich history, Lucerne is a favorite destination for visitors exploring Switzerland.

Take advantage of the Swiss Travel Pass with a short lake cruise or explore the old town on foot. The Swiss Museum of Transport (50% discount with your Swiss Travel Pass) is a perfect indoor option should the weather take a turn.

Lucerne has numerous excursion possibilities both to mountains and nearby villages. Travel for free with your Swiss Travel Pass to Mount Rigi, known as the Queen of the Mountains, by cogwheel train and cable car. You can also enjoy the Rigi-Kaltbad mineral spa (supplement applies). Other possibilities include Engelberg, a charming Alpine village at the foot of Mount Titlis, or historic lakeside towns like Schwyz and Brunnen.

Optional excursions with 50% discount include Mount Pilatus and Mount Titlis.

If you’re looking for a day of skiing, Sedrun, Disentis and Andermatt are all only a couple of hours away by train and offer great conditions for a quick day on the slopes. The journey is included in your Swiss Travel Pass – however, ski passes and rental must be added on separately locally.

Another unique excursion is to the mountain resort of Stoos, reached via the world’s steepest funicular railway, almost climbing vertically like a lift up the mountain side. The funicular is included in the Swiss Travel Pass, while a supplement is required for the chairlifts to Fronalpstock or Klingenstock.

Overnight stay at Lucerne in a 3-star hotel or similar.

Day 7-9 Lucerne Interlaken

Use your Swiss Travel Pass on the scenic Lucerne–Interlaken Express train to reach Interlaken. This journey is fully included in the pass.

Nestled between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, Interlaken is a popular Swiss resort town surrounded by the stunning peaks of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. Known for its adventure activities, hiking trails, and breathtaking views, it is a gateway to the Bernese Oberland and offers a variety of thrilling experiences.

Take the opportunity to explore the town with its iconic Höheweg promenade, or use your pass to enjoy a winter lake cruise on Lake Thun or Lake Brienz.

During your stay, you might choose to visit the capital city Bern for its famous Christmas markets or opt for something more exhilarating like a Jetboat Ride on Lake Brienz (supplement applies).

The Bernese Oberland offers spectacular winter scenery and hiking trails, perfect for those wishing to enjoy the outdoors. For a memorable evening, consider experiences such as night sledging with fondue or raclette rafting (supplements apply).

Interlaken is also an excellent base for mountain excursions. Visit the spectacular Schilthorn with its panoramic views and revolving restaurant, or the iconic Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe, the highest railway station in Europe. All offer discounts on the regular fare to holders of the Swiss Travel Pass.

Day 10 Interlaken Montreux

Continue to Montreux with the GoldenPass Express train. The journey is included in your Swiss Travel Pass and a seat reservation is also included.

Montreux, located on the scenic shores of Lake Geneva, is renowned for its stunning Riviera views, annual Montreux Jazz Festival, and nearby mountain excursions. This charming town is surrounded by vineyards and serves as a gateway to both cultural and natural attractions.

After arriving in Montreux, a great way to start your stay is to head to the beautiful Chillon Castle, nestled nicely by the water’s edge. The entry is even free with your Swiss Travel Pass.

Montreux is also famous for its wine – even in the winter season you can visit wineries and taste the local produce first hand. The Lavaux Vinorama is open all year round just for this.

If you’re in the mood for mountain excursions, consider a visit to Glacier 3000 with panoramic views across the Alps and the world’s highest suspension bridge. Alternatively, visit Rochers-de-Naye, Montreux’s local peak, where Santa’s house appears during the Christmas season. Access to both excursions is discounted with your Swiss Travel Pass.

Day 11-13 Montreux Zermatt

Travel to Zermatt, one of Switzerland’s most iconic destinations and a true alpine wonderland during winter. The village lies at the foot of the majestic Matterhorn and is completely car-free, preserving its charming, traditional character.

Zermatt offers a magical winter atmosphere with cozy chalets, boutique shops and gourmet restaurants, all framed by dramatic mountain scenery. It is also a paradise for skiing, snowshoeing, or simply soaking in the alpine charm.

Make the most of your Swiss Travel Pass with discounted access to the region’s most spectacular mountain excursions. The Gornergrat Railway brings you to one of the best panoramic viewpoints of the Matterhorn and surrounding 4000m peaks. The journey alone is unforgettable.

Another top option is the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise – the highest cable car station in Europe – which features a glacier palace, observation decks, and snow activities year-round.

The Sunnegga–Rothorn area is great for those looking to ski or enjoy family-friendly snow activities, while still offering stunning views of the Matterhorn.

You can also visit the Matterhorn Museum to learn more about the history of the region and enjoy some leisurely time wandering the snow-covered village.

Can you book my international airfares?

On some Islands Holiday Packages (e.g. Fiji), it is practical to include flights, so where we have done this it is indicated by the plane icon.

However, on the majority of our Holiday Packages, we do not include international flights.

We found that many customers may prefer to:

  • Travel on a specific airline of their choice
  • Have the flexibility to book flights with Frequent Flyer points
  • Select flight dates that may be different to our Holiday Package start/end dates
  • Use a Travel Credit already held with the airline
  • Use their travel agent for this service

We are able to assist with flights on any Holiday Package, so please just notify us during the Book Now process or contact our team.

Should I take travel insurance?

Travel insurance is strongly recommended. During the Book Now process please confirm you require assistance, and our team will be in contact with you.

What should I do before travelling?

Before you travel it is your responsibility to ensure you have the appropriate documentation including visas. If you are travelling on a passport other than Australian or New Zealand, you will require a permit to re-enter Australia. It is your responsibility as the traveller and/or travel booker to meet all government entry requirements.
