Monaco is one of the few countries that hold Formula One races on its streets. The prestigious Monaco Grand Prix is an event you wouldn’t want to miss. Taking place annually on the last weekend of May, the event runs from the Boulevard Albert 1, up the Place du Casino, and around the turn in front of the Monte-Carlo Fairmont Hotel. Join spectators as they burst into cheers as drivers take on the city’s iconic street track.

Travellers can also sunbathe under the Mediterranean sunshine at Larvotto Beach, the only public beach in the principality. You can try various water sports here, including jet skiing and sea kayaking.

Post Lockdown in Monaco

Only fully-vaccinated travellers can enter the borders of Monaco. You will only be considered fully vaccinated 28 days after your Janssen vaccine or seven days after the second dose for the other vaccines. Shots are deemed full nine months after the last dose. Otherwise, travellers must get a booster dose within the same period. You’ll also need to show proof of recovery if you had COVID in the past.
 

Flying to Monaco

There are no airports in Monaco. Visitors will need to go to Nice Côte d'Azur airport, the closest major airport to the country, and take a bus to Monaco. It is around 22 kilometres away from your destination and would take approximately 45 minutes of travel.

  • Peep inside or try your luck at the legendary Casino de Monte-Carlo, Monaco’s marble-and-gold casino complex and one of the most opulent example of belle époque architecture in Europe.

  • See the world’s largest cactus and succulent collection in the Jardin Exotique and wander its maze of paths, bridges and stairs.

  • Get lost in the small, windy medieval lanes of Le Rocher’s old town and stronghold of the Grimaldis.

  • Visit the Palais Princier de Monaco or simply the Palace, the private residence of the Grimaldi family built in the 13th Century as a fortress. Do not miss the changing of the guard that takes place at 11:55 in the morning every day.

  • If you cannot witness the Formula One Grand Prix in May, you can at least walk the 3.2km circuit that is open to the public other times of the year.

  •  Admire the Prince’s vintage car collection - At the end of the 1950s, the car enthusiast Prince Rainier III began collecting old cars. His collection gradually grew over the years as he acquired more and more models. Wander through the collection of about 100 cars, which is open to the public. 

  • Visit the Oceanographic Museum; built on the side of Monaco’s legendary Rocher, the Oceanographic Museum founded by H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco’s great-greatgrandfather Prince Albert I has been watching over the oceans for more than a century. The Museum is renowned throughout the world for its expertise and has more than 6,000 specimens on display.
