Overview

On the initial hiking excursion, you will be treated to scenic trails that offer sweeping vistas of the majestic Southern Lakes. In the subsequent days, you will be immersed in the exploration of hiking routes within Kluane National Park and Reserve, a hidden gem of natural wonders in Canada.

Kluane is part of the Kluane/Wrangell-St. Elias/Glacier Bay/Tatshenshini-Alsek UNESCO World Heritage Site, spanning both Canada and the United States. This area boasts the largest non-polar icefield and houses some of the world’s longest and most spectacular glaciers. Kluane offers 25+ hiking trails, ranging from moraine to rugged mountains, glaciers, and alpine plateaus, each with varying levels of difficulty.

More than 2,000 glaciers, some over a kilometer thick, grace this region. Approximately 4 percent of them surge, meaning water forms between rock and ice, allowing the glacier to move more than a mile in a month. Canada’s highest peak, Mount Logan (19,551 feet), is situated in the heart of the park. Accessible mainly by foot, Kluane National Park provides an authentic wilderness experience. To truly immerse in Kluane National Park, hiking is essential. The Tatshenshini River winds through beautiful landscapes on the outskirts of the park, offering a thrilling day of rafting.

Day 2 Carcross & Southern Lakes

Starting in Whitehorse, you'll first stop at the beautiful ‘Miles Canyon’ with its famous suspension bridge. Continuing on the South Klondike Highway, the mountains rise as you approach Carcross and the Southern Lakes region, renowned as a photographer’s paradise. Visit the world's smallest desert - the Carcross desert - and explore Carcross, a charming lakeshore village steeped in First Nations and gold-rush history. On a beginner-level hiking tour along scenic trails, you'll overlook the grand Southern Lakes, now the final stop for the White Pass Railway. Don't miss the chance to admire Emerald Lake, known as "Rainbow Lake" by the locals due to its sensational coloration.

Day 3 Haines Junction & Kluane National Park

Today, head out to Kluane National Park and begin your visit at the DaKu Visitor Information Centre, featuring interpretive displays and an audio-visual presentation. A hidden gem in Kluane National Park, the Spruce Beetle Trail offers an interpretive hike with a rewarding view of Kluane’s Glaciers. Depending on passengers' interest, Arctic Range can also arrange a spectacular bush plane flight over the immense glaciers of the park (optional). This adventure over a virtually pristine wilderness is especially spectacular on clear days.

Day 4 Kluane National Park

Towering over Kathleen Lake, King’s Throne is one of the park's iconic mountains, reaching an impressive 1,990 meters above sea level. Initially, the trail follows an old mining road along the south side of Kathleen Lake. At the mountain's base, the trail ascends through a forested area. Reaching the 'saddle' offers the first rewarding views overlooking Kathleen Lake and the open foothills at the edge of Kluane National Park. The trail continues along the ridge of the saddle, reaching the peak with a breathtaking view of the park.

Can you book my international airfares?

On some Islands Holiday Packages (e.g. Fiji), it is practical to include flights, so where we have done this it is indicated by the plane icon.

However, on the majority of our Holiday Packages, we do not include international flights.

We found that many customers may prefer to:

  • Travel on a specific airline of their choice
  • Have the flexibility to book flights with Frequent Flyer points
  • Select flight dates that may be different to our Holiday Package start/end dates
  • Use a Travel Credit already held with the airline
  • Use their travel agent for this service

We are able to assist with flights on any Holiday Package, so please just notify us during the Book Now process or contact our team.

Should I take travel insurance?

Travel insurance is strongly recommended. During the Book Now process please confirm you require assistance, and our team will be in contact with you.

What should I do before travelling?

Before you travel it is your responsibility to ensure you have the appropriate documentation including visas. If you are travelling on a passport other than Australian or New Zealand, you will require a permit to re-enter Australia. It is your responsibility as the traveller and/or travel booker to meet all government entry requirements.

For more information please visit - Before you travel | Entire Travel Group
