Maupiti is a small island at the tip of the Society Archipelago, about 300km west of Tahiti.
Maupiti is serviced by air by Air Tahiti, with her airstrip being located on a sandy islet motu, making for a spectacular arrival. There is only one reef pass that allows access to the lagoon and it can be a bit of a hairy entry when the swell is large!
Maupiti is a hidden gem of an island with an exceptionally beautiful lagoon. The island is often referred to as the Preserved Island and it is nature that is the absolute ruler as there are no hotels and only a few scattered family Pensions. The preserved serenity and untouched nature of the island attracts sea turtles who lay their eggs on the white sand beaches. Maupiti’s lagoon is also home to Manta rays and we recommend you experience the unforgettable opportunity of snorkelling with them – simply magic! The island has a striking mountain peak and if you are keen you can hike up to the top to be rewarded with stunning views of the lagoon and even the island of Bora Bora in the distance.
We love the stunning lagoon colours in Maupiti. You feel completely relaxed as you leave behind the hustle and bustle of city life to reconnect with the untouched natural beauty of the island. Although it’s only small you can still keep busy with hikes, bike rides, snorkelling, fishing and of course lazing around in the warm jade waters of the lagoon.
Maupiti will suit those travellers looking to disconnect for a while and be happy to stroll along at a different pace. You will need to be love the simplistic pension accommodations and although you may be far from the amenities of a large hotel, your taste buds will not be missing anything as the local cuisine is fantastic! Maupiti is perfect for those who are searching for an untouched paradise eager to find their own postcard paradise.
Thank you Entire Travel and especially Lisa. Our Tahiti holiday was amazing from start to finish. From the time of booking until we left, the whole experience was so easy and thorough.. Anytime I rang to ask a question,Lisa and staff were beyond helpful. Once we arrived in Tahiti, the transfers went without a hitch, they were there each and every time, once we arrived on Moorea it was beyond paradise. A big thank you to Entire Travel Group with a special thanks to Alison. We had mostly organised our own overseas holidays in the past but being unfamiliar with Canada we thought we would approach a travel agency. Thinking the travel agency would help us we were surprised to be handed a couple of booklets and told to go away and come back when we knew what we wanted to do. One of the booklets was Entire Travel Group so after viewing what was available we decided to contact you directly. That decision changed the Entire course of our traveling experience, excuse the pun. We sent an email to the Entire Group and over the next few days had spoken to Alison who listened, was knowledgeable and responsive to our requests, questions and doubts about travelling to Canada. At the conclusion we had holiday package which we could have only dreamed about. Alison and the team worked wonders and we were extremely happy with a holiday that was brilliant.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We have just returned from a wonderful independent trip through Canada organised by Sam Treby at Entire Travel. Sam took the time to understand what we wanted and put together an itinerary that suited us perfectly. The accommodation, tours and travel arrangements were all excellent and everything ran smoothly throughout the trip. A particular highlight was the interactive itinerary, which was detailed, easy to use and invaluable while travelling. What impressed us most was that the service didn't stop once we departed. When a question arose during the trip, Sam responded promptly and resolved it for us. It was reassuring to know that support was only a message away. We thoroughly enjoyed our Canadian adventure and would happily recommend Entire Travel and Sam to anyone planning a similar holiday.
Awsome Holiday! The best experience Perfectly planned for less hassle 👌 Thank you Cassandra for your help We will definitely be using Entire Travel Group on our next adventure
Maupiti lies 195 miles (315 kilometres) northwest of Tahiti and 25 miles (40 kilometres) west of Bora Bora. It’s in the Leeward Islands, an archipelago in the Society Islands.
The island is 11 square kilometres long.
You can reach this tiny island by plane or boat.
If you’re flying from Papeete, Bora Bora, or Raiatea, book your flight with Air Tahiti. As for boat rides, the Bora Bora to Maupiti ferry is your best option.
Maupiti flights from Tahiti are 50 minutes long.
Residents and visitors explore the island on bicycles or canoes. You can also walk on Maupiti’s small road or within the lagoon’s centre.
Visiting the breathtaking and scenic Terei’a beach is perfect for brief itineraries. It comes close to the beaches on Tahiti’s other islands, highlighting shallow, crystal-clear waters.
Motu Auria is another must-visit destination. Here, you can explore cliffs, caves, and other hidden gems.
Hiking Mount Teurafaatiu will take you three hours. But a panoramic view of Maupiti and its lagoon and motu makes the tough climb worthwhile. You may even spot Bora Bora, Raiatea, and manta rays swimming in the lagoon.
You can ask your pension or guesthouse to arrange a snorkelling tour. It’ll take you to the island’s manta ray cleaning stations.
You won’t see fancy hotels or overwater bungalows on this secluded island. However, Tahitian guesthouses will welcome you with open arms.
You’ll see Maupiti’s post office, town hall, Air Tahiti agency, and fire station in Petei. If you need medical care, head to Farauru where the nurse station is.
