Venture out on a 4WD to the very heart of the island of Tahiti. Admire the valley of Papenoo, famous for its rivers and enjoy the incredible waterfall and tropical views. Spend a relaxing morning at the InterContinental Tahiti Resort & Spa. Once you have checked out of the hotel our representative will be there to transfer you to the Paul Gauguin Cruise Terminal which is located in town a nice 10 minutes drive from InterContinental Tahiti Resort & Spa. Receive a warm welcome onboard the Paul Gauguin from the crew and sail towards Fakarava in the Tuamotus.

The day is spent getting to know crew and fellow guests while exploring the vessel that will be ‘home’ for the next 14 days. Meet Les Gauguins & Les Gauguines, Tahitian hosts and entertainers that bring the spirit of Polynesia to life on every Paul Gauguin voyage.

Fakarava is an unspoiled paradise in every sense of the word. In addition to the many rare species of plants and animals you’ll find in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, it’s also a place of cultural and historical significance, with charming villages, ancient temples, and spectacular coral-adorned churches. The atoll is renowned for its immaculate beaches and the immense lagoon, whose colours evoke an infinite palette.

Have you met Les Gauguins and Les Gauguines yet? Arrive at Omoa, a peaceful fishing village far from all civilisation, nestling in a magnificent bay on the island of Fatu HivaThe Southernmost island in the Marquesas, Fatu Hiva is wild, remote, and spectacularly beautiful. Don’t forget your camera—you’ll be treated to jungle greenery that begins right at the water’s edge; sheer cliffs; and deep, indigo waters. With only 500 residents and only one road, this island is almost completely yours.

Atuona, Hiva Oa, Marquesas Islands

Hiva Oa is considered to be the “garden of the Marquesas Islands.” A special kind of power and charm emanate from its craggy skyline and black sand beaches. The city of Atuona is a favorite of the yacht set, yet beyond the marina, you’ll find ancient stone tiki carvings, mysterious petroglyphs, and dense, emerald jungle. Where will you start your exploration?  The small village of Atuona is home to the tombs of Jacques Brel and Paul Gauguin, as well as a cultural centre devoted to the memory of the famous French painter.

Hapatoni, Tahuata, Marquesas Islands

The leaf-shaped volcanic island of Tahuata may be small, at only 19 square miles, but it’s full of surprises—in fact, its name means “surprise” in Marquesan. Discover the quaint village of Hapatoni, the ancient royal walkway that’s an archeological treasure, and a huge, Vatican-built Catholic church. Further on, vegetation takes over, inviting you to walk among its beautiful green valleys. Here, the population will give you a proper welcome, with traditional singing and dancing. A moment of conviviality you’ll remember!

Taiohae, Nuku Hiva, Marquesas Islands

Taiohae Bay welcomes you in a sumptuous setting. Drop anchor a few kilometres from the black sandy beaches, nestled between majestic valleys. You will find yourself in the middle of the main village on the island of Nuku Hiva. You can follow the footpaths on foot or in an all-terrain vehicle. From the top of the hill of Mount Muake, a breathtaking panorama allows you to clearly identify the rocky islands that emerge on either side of the bay. Further on, the site of Piki Vehine shows its tikis, sacred statues used for religious practices. In addition, do not miss the Notre Dame des Marquises cathedral. Its distinguishing feature is that is was built using stone taken from the six Marquesas Islands.

Indulge in a full day at Bora Bora, exploring lush peaks, wandering white-sand beaches, and marveling at iconic views of Mount Otemanu. Take the plunge with a SCUBA excursion to see the island’s colorful coral reefs (extra costs apply), enjoy a sunset jetboat ride (extra costs apply), or spend a lazy afternoon on our private beach. Like a priceless Paul Gauguin painting come to life, storied Bora Bora is colorful and unforgettable. The landscape alone will have you searching for adequate adjectives, especially once you see the lagoon—“turquoise” just doesn’t do it justice.

Taha'a, Society Islands

As the day unfolds in front of you in Taha’a, where will you go? Exciting shore excursions await (extra costs apply), but so does Motu Mahana, Paul Gauguin Cruises’ own private islet. Choose from swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, or simply lounging on the beach with a cold drink from our floating bar. Les Gauguines are also on hand to share musical entertainment and Polynesian crafts. 

Motu Mahana is Paul Gauguin Cruises’ own private islet, where nearly every activity is already included. Beach chairs, lunch tables, and umbrellas are all provided, as are full and floating bars and a sumptuous barbecue feast. Among the activities in which you can indulge are:

Step into a vibrant, colorful world in bright and beautiful Moorea, which welcomes you with azure lagoons, impossibly fresh tropical fruits, and palm-fringed beaches. Said to be the inspiration for James A. Michener’s novel “South Pacific” (and the Rogers & Hammerstein’s musical tribute, too), Moorea is a favorite port of travelers, though it might be hard to put your finger on why. The “Magical Island” hypnotizes with multi-hued lagoons, mountain peaks, quaint villages, and pineapples (which are said to be the most delicious in all of French Polynesia).

Why do some packages not offer the ability to Book Now on the website?

If a package on our website does not include our Peace of Mind Booking Plan, it will not be available to Book Now.

Due to the boutique nature and limited capacity of some travel experiences offered, they have strict payment and cancellation policies. (e.g., a remote bear lodge in Canada with only a few cabins).

Although technically possible, we have decided that it is impractical for us to try and sell these type of travel services on-line. We believe it is important that such product is discussed, so that we can ensure these strict payment and cancellation policies are understood before we proceed with a booking.

For such product we may act as an agent only for the principal suppliers. Where we act as agent, your contract for the delivery of travel arrangements will be with the principal supplier and will be subject to their Booking Conditions.

We will advise you prior to confirming your booking if we are acting as agent and we will confirm the details of the principal supplier. Our responsibility to you where we sell travel arrangements as agent for the supplier is specified in the ‘Responsibility’ section of our Booking Conditions.

Can you book my international airfares?

Following customer feedback, we do not include international flights in our holiday packages.

We found that many customers may prefer:

  • To travel on specific airlines
  • Have the flexibility to book flights with Frequent Flyer points
  • Select flight dates that may be different to the package start/end dates
  • Use their travel agent for this service

However, we are able to assist, so please just notify us during the Book Now process or contact our team.

Should I take travel insurance?

Travel insurance is strongly recommended. During the Book Now process please confirm you require assistance, and our team will be in contact with you.

What should I do before travelling?

Before you travel it is your responsibility to ensure you have the appropriate documentation including visas. If you are travelling on a passport other than Australian or New Zealand, you will require a permit to re-enter Australia. It is your responsibility as the traveller and/or travel booker to meet all government entry requirements.
